Mother Arrested Over Murder Of Bradford Girl
Police have arrested a 36-year-old woman on suspicion of murdering her young daughter.
West Yorkshire Police say the murder investigation was opened a day after the child and her mother were found unconscious outside an address in Delamere Street, in the West Bowling area of Bradford.
The daughter, whose identity has not been disclosed, later died in hospital.
A police spokesman said: "A post-mortem was carried out last night, which revealed that the girl died of injuries consistent with a fall."
The mother remains in a critical condition.
Police were called to the property at about 9.15am on Tuesday. It has not been officially confirmed how the pair got their injuries, although it is believed they fell from an upstairs window.
Neighbour Masood Rana said: "I heard a sort of banging noise and I looked outside and saw the police and paramedics here.
"After about 10 minutes I saw a body being carried out - a little baby - into an ambulance.
"After another five minutes or 10 minutes, there was a lady taken out of the house into an ambulance.
"It's a tragic incident what happened."
Residents say the mother and her daughter were not well-known in the area.
Labour councillor for Little Horton, Sher Khan said: "It's unbelievable. Apparently, the woman had recently moved from somewhere else - another city - to this area."
He told Bradford newspaper the Telegraph and Argus: "My understanding is that nobody knew her that well."
Police say they are not looking for anyone else in connection with the death.
Anyone with information relating to the incident has been asked to call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800555111.
