Mum Held For 'Killing Toddler' At Beach Resort
Police have arrested the mother of a two-year-old girl who was found dead at an Oregon beach resort.
Jessica Smith, 40, faces charges of aggravated murder and attempted aggravated murder.
Authorities had been looking for Smith since a housekeeper discovered the toddler, Isabella, and her 13-year-old sister Alana on Friday morning at the Cannon Beach resort.
The teenager had severe cut wounds, but she was expected to recover.
The cause of Isabella's death remains unknown after an autopsy, but officials determined it was a homicide.
Smith was found about 15 miles (24km) east of Cannon Beach off a logging road, local newspaper The Oregonian reported.
She had checked into the resort with her children on Wednesday, and there was no sign of forced entry at the scene, authorities said.
The children's father has cooperated with investigators and has been ruled out as a suspect, Cannon Beach Police Chief Jason Schermerhorn added.
Local reports said the couple had recently separated.
Smith, of Goldendale, Washington state, is due to appear in court for her arraignment.
