Mystery Of Amnesiac Who Knows Five Languages
Norwegian police have released a photograph of a man found in a snowdrift with no recollection of his identity in an attempt to find out who he is.
Authorities in Oslo said the man in his mid-20s was found "helpless in the snow" in December suffering from amnesia.
He did not have any identification and did not remember his name, but is currently being referred to as John Smith.
The man, who is more than 6ft tall and believed to be of eastern European origin, could not recall where he came from, how he came to be in Norway or any other details.
He speaks very good English with an Eastern European accent, and understands Czech, Slovak, Polish and Russian.
Police inquiries since then, including sending photos and fingerprints to eastern European nations through Interpol, have failed to find out who he is.
The man has now agreed for a picture of him to be released to try and get to the bottom of what happened.
"This is a man who has lived without knowing his own identity for several months," police lawyer Sturla Henriksb?ld Norwegian Broadcasting (NRK).
"He is very distressed."
