Neville Brothers At Dad's Sex Assault Trial

Former England football stars Gary and Phil Neville have turned up in court to support their father who is on trial charged with sexual assault.

Neville Neville is alleged to have attacked a woman who gave him a lift home in March of this year.

A jury at Bolton Crown Court has been told that Neville "pinned the woman to her car seat" leaving her frightened and distraught.

Prosecuting barrister Peter Cadwallader said Neville had been drinking heavily.

He told the court: "He lunged at her, kissing her, forcing his tongue into her mouth.

"He pushed his hands up her top and grabbed her breasts. By that stage she was becoming distraught and frightened.  He is a large man easily able to keep her from moving.

"He then pushed his hand down her trousers."

The court was told that Neville eventually stopped, leaving the alleged victim in a distraught condition and not knowing what to do.

The defendant's sons sat at the back of the public gallery as the woman was called to give evidence.

She sat with her head bowed, wiping away tears as the jury watched a video recording of her complaint to the police.

In the interview she said she felt cheap and frequently sobbed as she recalled details of the incident.

She told the police she had reminded Neville Neville that he was a married man and asked if he was unhappy.

He allegedly replied: "I'm happy but I like the chase."

The woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, said that she "just froze" and tried to persuade him to leave the car.

The defendant denies the charge of sexual assault and claims that the woman consented.

Mr Neville is a former league cricketer and director of League One side Bury FC.

His trial is expected to last a week.
