New Jersey Driver 'Beaten' As Car Stuck In Snow

A man in New Jersey has told police he was beaten unconscious by two men asking for money after his car got stuck in the snow.

The man said he got stuck on Sunday morning as he tried to enter the car park of a local business.

As he attempted to free his car, two men and a woman approached him to ask for money. When he told them he had nothing, the men beat him, according to the Press of Atlantic City.

He told police that his wallet had been stolen and that he went to hospital with minor injuries.

The reported attackcame as a cold snap continues to grip much of the nation. Forecasters are predicting freezing cold at Sunday's Super Bowl, which is held at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

Meanwhile, the Midwest also braced for severe wind chills and freezing temperatures. Travel has already been disrupted and many schools forced to close.

Michigan expressways closed as snow and sub-freezing temperatures played a role in multiple crashes on Sunday.

At least three people died over the weekend because of weather-related accidents.

The Chicago Public Schools called off Monday's classes for its nearly 400,000 students.

Freezing temperatures are expected to hold into Tuesday.

It is one of the coldest winters in memory after a polar vortex sent temperatures plunging to record lows and dumped snow on much of the US several weeks ago.
