Nick Cave achieves hero status after speed camera smash
Rocker Nick Cave became a "local hero" in his adopted hometown after he crashed into a speed camera and knocked it to the ground.
The Australian smashed into the camera in the coastal area of Brighton and Hove in 2010 and he was subsequently ordered to join other bad drivers on a special road safety awareness course.
However, Cave admits the incident had its plus points because he was feted by locals who were glad to have the camera out of action for several days.
He tells The Sun newspaper, "I became a local hero. I took out the camera along the sea front with my Jag. I was the toast of Brighton for about five days.
"Little goths came and prayed at the scene and wrote, 'Nick Cave was here'. I rather liked (the road safety course) because it was really rehab for drivers and there was that kind of shameful look about the people there."
