Obama To Hold White House News Conference
Barack Obama is addressing the issues of raising the nation's debt limit and gun controls at a news conference in Washington.
The president is taking questions from reporters in the White House East Room from 11.30am ET (4.30pm GMT), in what is likely to be the last such event of his first term.
Among the issues on the agenda are his looming fiscal fights with Congress, particularly over raising the nation's debt limit, and his administration's efforts to curb gun violence.
The president will receive a report on Tuesday from Vice President Joe Biden, who has been leading a task force on legislative measures in the wake of the Newtown massacre.
Mr Obama was also likely to field questions on his latest cabinet nominations, including John Kerry, Chuck Hagel and Jack Lew.
