Olympics Set For More Thrills After Bolt

After an amazing performance from Usain Bolt, hopes are riding high on British athletes today, as Laura Trott, Jason Kenny and Beth Tweddle get ready to compete.

Bolt provided one of the highlights of the Games on Sunday night as an 80,000-capacity crowd roared him to victory in the men's 100m final.

The Jamaican, who describes himself as the "most naturally-gifted athlete the world has ever seen", beat his own Olympic record with 9.63 seconds as he took gold.

The rapturous applause from the Olympic Stadium crowd was equal to that normally reserved for home athletes - proving Bolt's enormous popularity.

The display capped another day of drama at the Games - following hot on the heels of Super Saturday, described as British athletics' finest hour.

Fans saw Andy Murray win gold in the men's singles tennis final before taking silver in the doubles alongside Laura Robson.

Combined with Ben Ainslie clinching gold in the sailing, it took Team GB's total gold medal haul to 16 - just three short of their best ever performance in the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

And with Laura Trott and Jason Kenny taking part in medal races in cycling and Beth Tweddle competing in the gymnastics, hopes will be high that Team GB can set themselves to exceed all previous performances.

Tweddle, a three-time world and six-time European champion, will make her bid for a medal in the uneven bars final.

She is favourite to win gold ahead of rivals He Kexin of China and Viktoria Komova of Russia.

She said: "I just wanted to make that final. You've got to have luck on the day.

"If I go there and do the best routine that I can and it comes away with a medal, so be it. If it doesn't I've got so much to look back on in my career."
