Omid Djalili apologises for footy slur

Actor/funnyman Omid Djalili has apologised for jokingly comparing a football ace who was disfigured in a childhood accident to a Klingon character from Star Trek.
The Sex and the City 2 star was watching the England team take on France in the Euro championships in Poland on Monday, and made several comments on Twitter.com about the appearance of player Joleon Lescott, who was left with scars on his forehead after he was run over by a car aged five.
Djalili wrote, "I love u Lescott. Never said u were a deformity. Always rated him... To be fair a lot of forehead to aim for."
After England drew 1-1, he tweeted congratulations to the team but likened Lescott to a Klingon, an alien race who have large, ridged foreheads.
He added, "Bravo England, even though u give me 3 kinds of bowel disease watching you. Love Lescott. 1st Klingon at Euros."
Following a backlash from followers on the social networking site, he tweeted to say sorry: "Like to apologise to Joleon Lescott if any tweets made last night caused offence. No idea he's been injured in a car accident aged 5.
"Shouldn't make remarks about people's appearance wether (sic) they've been injured or not. Come on England!"
what do you think?

comedy should be universal - no-one should be excused from being a target. Omids jokes ARE funny and if some people take offence - too bad. Political Correctness killed comedy and it's only now slowly starting to come back to life. You can't please all the people all the time but just because some people don't like it it's no reason to ban it. And to be fair, Lescott DOES look like a klingon!

i bet if you became the victim of such abuse, yould change your tune. your sort are the type who say things like that, but when a female comedian comes out with man jokes, you acuse them of man hating and question their sexuality

I dislike this unfunny caricature. There's too many so-called comedians being insensitive and unkind about people, why should he have to have known about jescotts childhood accident? It was an unnecessary remark all round. We all have flaws but djalili can hardly afford to make remarks about anyone's physical appearance.
