Open Prison Fugitive Arrested By Police

Fugitive Ivan Leach, who absconded from an open prison, has been found by police in Camden, north London.

The 47-year-old had been on the run from North Sea Camp open prison in Boston, Lincolnshire since October 9. Police arrested him on suspicion of a number of offences this morning in the Camden area, Scotland Yard said. Leach, also known as Lee Cyril, was wanted for questioning about a rape in Scotland committed while police hunted for him.

On October 15, a woman was woken and raped by an intruder in her home in Perth, and the following day a mattress was stolen from her home.

Leach, from Preston, was jailed in 2005 for robbing a 90-year-old woman in her home in the city.

He was given a life sentence with a minimum tariff of five years.

Leach is currently in custody in a north London police station.

Police had warned people not to approach the fugitive under any circumstances.

what do you think?

When prisoners are nearing the end of their sentences they may be transferred to an open prison but that is based on their state of mind and their behaviour within their time in a full security prison. Rest assured he will never be allowed in an open prison again. I know this from experience...

Two words "open" and "prison" we all understand he wasn't a suitable candidate for an open prison! Well, some of us do.

Interesting 'life sentence'. 'Minimum tariff of 5 years'. No wonder theres a problem with re-affending. And of course the holiday camp conditions whilst inside.

I totally agree Jeffrey, the justice system is so ar*se about face. Our penal system hands out big custodial sentences for fairly minor things but extremely lenient sentences for major things. I believe the death penalty should be reinstated for cases that are 'beyond reasonable doubt' because that is all our justice system is based on. We should implement the 3 strikes tariff as in america, do 3 things wrong regardless of what it is and you get maximum sentence...
