Oscars: Jennifer Lawrence Trips Up The Stairs
Best Actress winner Jennifer Lawrence tripped on the way up to receive her Oscar - just weeks after suffering a wardrobe malfunction at another awards ceremony.
The accident-prone star of Silver Linings Playbook managed to fall on the stairs just as she was making her way up to receive her coveted gong.
The 22-year-old, who only appeared in her first professional role six years ago, had endured acute embarrassment only four weeks earlier when her dress came apart as she went to collect a Screen Actors Guild Award.
Afterwards she laughed it off, managing a joke as she collected an Oscar for her performance as a recovering sex addict in the romantic comedy drama.
Reacting to the standing ovation she received, she said: "You guys are just standing up because you feel bad that I fell over and that's embarrassing.
"This is nuts."
Just under a month ago, at the Screen Actors Guild Awards, she nearly had to abandon her walk to the stage to receive the Best Actress Award for her performance in the same film as her dress nearly ripped apart.
There were gasps from others in the audience including fellow actresses Marion Cotillard and Nicole Kidman as the lower part of her Christian Dior tiered dress came away from the upper section when it got hooked on a chair.
On Sunday night in Los Angeles, Lawrence had just made it to the steps before she fell forwards on to her hands having tripped on her long, pale pink dress.
Her blushes were partly spared by fellow actor Hugh Jackman who rushed to help her to her feet and up the steps.
Once on stage she rushed straight into her speech thanking her co-stars, crew and team for their support.
At a press conference afterwards she added to her embarrassment when she reacted to a group of photographers.
As one of them told her to "watch her step", she responded by making an obscene gesture.
But as the photographers immediately started flashing away as she raised one finger at them, she had a change of heart and suddenly reacted with horror, realising that her gesture would be seen around the world as well.
As one journalist asked her why she had fallen over she joked: "Was that on purpose? Absolutely."
On hearing the full question, she said: "What do you mean what happened? Look at my dress. I tried to walk upstairs in this dress. That's what happened. And then I think I stepped on the fabric and they waxed the stairs."
Another reporter asked her what was going through her mind as she fell down.
She said: "A bad word, that I can't say; that starts with 'F'."
Earlier Lawrence - the new face of Miss Dior - admitted she had cut six inches off the train of the dress before the show.
She told Ryan Seacrest on the red carpet: "It would have been too insane."
Before the ceremony began, Lawrence said she had spent the day with her family preparing.
She had been so busy, she said, she had not had time to eat.
Her mother Karen, who was sitting next to her, was one of the first to congratulate her on her win.
