Pierce recovering from secret liver disease

Spiritualized star Jason Pierce has been given a bill of good health after he was recently diagnosed with long-term liver disease.

The 46-year-old frontman discovered he was suffering with severe organ damage during a routine medical check-up last year.

He tells The Guardian, "I found out I had long-term liver disease. My liver was pretty gone, basically."

But Pierce signed up for an experimental clinical medical trial, which involved weekly injections and daily pills - and it appears the medications have worked.

Pierce admits he kept the news of his health scare and diagnosis from his bandmates and management, so as not to cause panic while recording new album Sweet Heart Sweet Light.

He adds, "I think he (my representative) thought I was f**ked up. Sometimes I'd disappear and he'd find me four hours later, asleep in a room, but we got it (the record) done... It was made in such weird conditions, it's hard for me to get a handle on it."
