Plebgate: Female Officer Arrested Over 'Leaks'

A female police officer tasked with protecting Government officials has been arrested over alleged leaks to the media linked to the Andrew Mitchell "plebgate" affair.

The 46-year-old, who works in the Diplomatic Protection Group at the Metropolitan Police Service, was arrested at her workplace in central London on suspicion of misconduct in a public office.

She was arrested over alleged leaks to the media linked to the row which led former Tory chief whip Andrew Mitchell to quit his Cabinet post following claims he called officers "plebs".

The officer arrested was present at Downing Street during the incident in September, Scotland Yard confirmed.

She is being held in custody in a London police station and the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) have been informed, it added.

This was the fourth arrest in the investigation, which is known as Operation Alice.

A 46-year-old male officer arrested a day earlier over the affair has been bailed to return on a date in March and has been suspended from duty.

Three weeks ago Metropolitan Police commissioner Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe said that a file of evidence on the case could be handed to prosecutors by the end of January.

But Scotland Yard said on Thursday that because of "ongoing developments" no interim report had yet been submitted to the Crown Prosecution Service.

Investigators have taken statements from all 800 officers in the Diplomatic Protection Group (DPG) as part of the inquiry.

Two other men have been arrested so far, both of whom have been released on bail until February.

A 52-year-old Pc who is also from the DPG and currently suspended was held on suspicion of misconduct in public office, while a 23-year-old was arrested on suspicion of intentionally encouraging or assisting the commission of an indictable offence.

Four other constables in the unit, which is responsible for protecting government officials and diplomats, have been placed on restricted duty over misconduct claims.

Even though there are bad apples in the police, it seems this is being used to veer away from the fact that this toad insulted police officers, and was trying to act above the law. Get back on track, and bring this idiot down.

Looks like the bent coppers were the ones slinging the insults. Try and look beyond the fact he's a Tory Vlad, it doesn't matter who it was, the police officers LIED and they are members of the DPG.

Byron, everyone on here is politically motivated, or we wouldn't bother commenting. Vlad is so right, this is turning into a whitewash of what the case is actually about. Ok, charge the bent coppers, but make sure Mr Squeaky clean is actually charge as well. Verbally abusing the police, used to get you locked up, once upon a time. Oh, and Byron, why do you resort to insulting Vlad, when he has only posted his opinion. You sound politically motivated, also.

Its not a question of insults being aimed at the police. Its a question of trust. Mitchell admitted swearing at them, he was wrong and has told the truth. The police have lied through their teeth. That is totally reprehensible. they are not to be trusted. Mitchell may not be a likable person, he has been rude to officers of the law (personally I don't blame him after the way they treated him). But at least, as things stand, we can trust what he says, unlike the lying toads in uniform.

Ivor, the issue is about wether Mitchell called them plebs or not, that is what it has boiled down to. He didn't, the police lied. sections of the west midlands force conducted what amounts to a hate campaign against an elected mp based on their lie that he used the word pleb. They are so far out of order that any insult Mitchel aimed at them has become almost insignificant. That is the real issue.

Alex, why don't you make a valid comment in reference to the post. Vlad posted his opinion, you just took a side swipe at him, without supporting your view.Obviously a Tory, but not making an intelligent comment, will not endear you to your peers.

I am sick an gtired of all the 'working class heroes' in this country who immediately attack anybody who has made a success of their life, is well educated or opposes their politics. People in this country need to grow up Irrespective of all the comments, it is the police whohave lied and broken the law. How do we expect young people to respect the police force when clearly they cannot be trusted.

A new law is required. Any police oifficer who even remotely takes a political stance (such as marching against cuts, or stitching up an mp) should face a minimum 6 months prison, all benefits cancelled etc.

But no charges for an MP who lies through his teeth, after insulting the police, because they didn't jump to open the main gate, hence disrespecting him, (and rightly so) .Your political bias is so obvious it;s a joke.
