Police Death: Tributes To Officer Killed In Crash

Police colleagues have paid tribute to a "respected officer" and "loving family man" who was killed after his car crashed into a tree while he was answering an emergency call in North Yorkshire.

Pc Andrew Bramma, 32, was died in the accident in the village of West Tanfield, near Ripon, at 7pm on Saturday, police said.

The married father-of-two was the only person in the vehicle when it crashed and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Pc Bramma, who had two young sons, had transferred from Greater Manchester Police to North Yorkshire about four months ago

Temporary Chief Constable Tim Madgwick said condolences had poured in from across the country following the officer's death.

He said: "This is terrible and tragic news and the thoughts of everyone at North Yorkshire Police are with the officer's family at this sad and very difficult time.

"The officer's immediate family have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.

"Everyone is shocked and saddened by the news of his death and I speak for every member of the force in extending our heartfelt sympathies to his family, friends and colleagues."

Mike Stubbs, of North Yorkshire Police Federation said: "Andrew had quickly established himself as a well-liked and respected officer amongst his colleagues in North Yorkshire who are distraught at his death.

"Most tragically, he leaves behind a young family who are devastated by last night's events. We are working very closely with the chief officer team to support them."

Pc Bramma's former colleagues from the B relief team at Greater Manchester Police's Rochdale division issued a joint statement to express their sorrow.

"Last night we received the worst news any police officer could wish to receive - that a close colleague and friend, Pc Bramma, had been taken from us in tragic circumstances, whilst doing the job he loved of helping people in their hour of need.

"Andrew was a great police officer and a loving family man.

"For anyone who knew him, Andrew was meticulous in everything he did, nothing would ever beat him and he would leave no stone unturned to find his answers. Every job he dealt with was always done to A* standard."

Officers have appealed for anyone who witnessed the crash or saw a police van travelling between Ripon police station and the scene of the incident to contact them with information on 101.

The Health and Safety Executive has also been informed and an investigation will be carried out into the cause of the crash.

Great sadness for his loved ones. Where does this wishful thinking expression Rest In Peace come from? Is it just a sympathetic humanistic response or does it have some foundation in a faith?

It comes from the jewish idea (absorbed into some Christian thinking) that after death our soul (psyche) continues - but in a state of sleep, until the Resurrection of the dead at the end of time. Hence the Christian prayer "May the souls fo the departed rest in peace and rise in glory".

Not sticking up for the thumbs down brigade if they are intentional, but on the Iphone as you scroll down ur thumb is next to the thumbs down button so I believe they are accidental however if its the purpose to disagree I believe they should say why??

I've got an iPhone and you'd have to scroll down in middle of screen to accidentally hit thumbs down button not the edge of the screen so probably unlikely

The thumbs thing is a big distraction really. It does help those who are not good with words to join in but is also abused.

Michael, they're quick enough to demean! But, quick enough to call for assistance. You're quite right! A family has lost a. Father, husband and a son. Some people have no compassion. See above!!.......
