Police Search For Kayaker Missing In River

A major search operation is under way for a kayaker who went missing in a river in Wales.

The man, who is in his 30s, had reportedly got into difficulty while kayaking with a group around lunchtime on Sunday and has not been seen since.

Officers were called to the River Usk at Llangynidr, near Crickhowell, Powys at about 1pm.

Dyfed-Powys Police, the Welsh Ambulance Service, Brecon Mountain Rescue Team and the coastguard are taking part in the search.

A police helicopter as well as a search and rescue helicopter are also at the scene.

The rest of the kayaking group are safe and well.

Their relatives as well as the missing's man family has been informed of his disappearance.

Water levels are thought to be high on the river following heavy rain over the weekend.

A police spokesman said: "Weather conditions are very difficult and challenging at the scene.

"All efforts are being made in the on-going search and rescue operation.

"We advise people to stay away from the scene for their safety due to the conditions."
