Prince changes setlist to avoid a breakdown
Pop superstar Prince changes his setlist at every gig because the monotony of playing the same songs night after night left him on the verge of a nervous breakdown.
The 1999 hitmaker has become well known for playing a wide variety of songs from his vast back catalogue during his stage shows, and he now admits he has to keep changing his act to stave off boredom which drove him to despair in the 1980s.
He tells the Chicago Tribune, "I nearly had a nervous breakdown on The Purple Rain tour (in 1984) because it was the same every night.
"It's work to play the same songs the same way for 70 shows. To me, it's not work to learn lots of different songs so that the experience is fresh to us each night."
