William And Harry Visit Philip In Hospital

Princes Harry and William have visited their grandfather Prince Philip in hospital where he is likely to spend his 91st Birthday.

The two young Princes were seen leaving the King Edward VII Hospital in central London where the Duke of Edinburgh is being treated for a bladder infection.

Buckingham Palace confirmed earlier that it is unlikely he will be discharged by Sunday for his birthday celebrations despite the Duke of York's assurance this week that his father was on the mend.

Philip had been planning to celebrate privately and was not due to attend his next scheduled engagement until Tuesday, when the Queen will host a garden party at the Sandringham Estate to mark her Diamond Jubilee.

It is hoped the Duke will be by her side at her Norfolk retreat if he has been discharged from hospital by then.

It was also hoped he would be able to accompany her to the East Midlands on Wednesday for a two-day visit as part of the Queen's UK jubilee tour.

Philip has already been forced to miss some of the Queen's celebrations to mark her 60 year reign since being admitted to hospital on Monday.

Doctors have suggested he may have fallen ill from not making enough trips to the toilet during Sunday's bad weather at the Thames River Pageant.

On Wednesday he was visited by the Queen and Andrew, who said his father was "mending very well".

The Palace said earlier this week that he was being treated with antibiotics and was in good spirits.

Last December, Philip underwent a successful procedure to clear a blocked coronary artery and was in hospital for four nights over Christmas.

In March this year, his grandson Prince Harry said the operation had given him "a new spurt of life".

As part of Philip's birthday celebrations on Tuesday, the King's Troop Royal Horse Artillery was expected to fire a salute in London's Hyde Park.

The salute is fired every year to herald the occasion and the event is open to the public but not customarily attended by members of the royal family.

Well that's his supply of grapes depleted. Anyway, good to see the family hanging together, especially since they do have busy schedules. As a qualified pilot himself, Prince Philip will be delighted at William's good news.
