Randy Travis Pleads Guilty To Drink-Driving
Country music star Randy Travis has pleaded guilty to drink-driving charges after an incident last year when police found him lying naked in the road.
The 53-year-old singer received two years' probation, a $2,000 (£1,262) fine and a 180-day suspended sentence.
Travis, one of the biggest names in US country music, was also ordered to spend at least 30 days at an alcohol treatment clinic and complete 100 hours of community service.
Police said he threatened to kill them when they arrested the singer on August 7 near the town of Tioga in Texas.
The singer's Pontiac Trans Am had veered off the road and hit several barricades and Travis was later found to have a blood alcohol level of 0.21mg. The legal limit is 0.08mg.
Speaking at court, Travis thanked his supporters as well as the police officers - whom he said he had recently met - for "obviously taking care of me that night".
"I'm glad it's behind me," he added.
Prosecutor Joe Brown said Travis' punishment was harsher than most other drink-driving cases.
"First time DWI (driving while intoxicated) defendants are rarely forced into in-patient treatment. He will be unable to leave the facility for 30 days.
"His fine and community service requirements are more than double what is usually received ... All of that is appropriate in light of his behaviour with the officers."
Last August's incident was not Travis' first arrest for drunken behaviour.
In February 2012 he was also detained for public intoxication after police found him parked in his car smelling of alcohol.
Travis has sold more than 25 million records since breaking through in the mid-1980s with 22 number one hits on the Billboard country charts and has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
He also starred alongside Matt Damon in the 1997 movie The Rainmaker and has featured in numerous US TV shows.
