The Pretty Woman star is to be feted for his role in drama Arbitrage, which has already earned him a Golden Globes nomination, during the event in January.
Gere will be presented with the coveted Chairman's Award, and festival chairman Harold Matzner says, "Throughout his career Richard Gere has established himself as an accomplished actor and producer and yet still finds time to support crucial cultural and humanitarian causes."

The festival runs from 3-14 January.
