Rooftop Gunman Arrested After Two Shot Dead

Two teenagers have been killed and seven other people wounded by a gunman in southern Finland.

He shot at people from a rooftop in Hyvinkaa, around 30 miles north of the capital Helsinki.

After the arrest of an 18-year-old local man police said they were yet to establish a motive for the shootings.

The victims, who had been gathered outside a restaurant, included an 18-year-old woman and an 18-year-old man.

A female police officer, aged 23, who arrived at the scene following an emergency call, was among the wounded.

"The man was found with two weapons... including a hunting rifle," said Detective Chief Inspector Markku Tuominen.

Police said the suspect did not possess any gun permits.

In Finland, where there are strong hunting traditions, there are some 650,000 officially recognised gun owners out of a population of 5.4 million.
