Run-D.M.C. to reunite for festival

The surviving members of legendary hip-hop group Run-D.M.C. are reuniting later this year for a one-off performance at a festival in Austin, Texas.

The It's Like That hitmakers split in 2002 following the murder of longtime member Jason 'Jam Master Jay' Mizell, but they are coming back together for the Fun Fun Fun Fest in November.

A portion of proceeds from the festival will be handed to the Jam Master Jay Foundation for Music, which was set up in Mizell's memory after his death.

Event bosses announced the news on Tuesday in a video posted on YouTube.com, and an accompanying post declared, "Run-D.M.C. will perform at the 7th annual festival which takes place (on) November 2-4th in Austin, TX for the first time since disbanding in 2002. Surviving members Joseph 'Run' Simmons and Darryl 'D.M.C.' McDaniels will headline the main stage.

"In honor (sic) of Jay's life, FFF festival promoters are working with the band to donate a portion of proceeds to his foundation the JMJ Foundation for Music which is dedicated to providing access to the arts, regardless of socio-economic status, for children and young adults."

The group was rumoured to be reforming for the Roots' annual summer festival in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 2010, but the reunion failed to materialise.
