Rupert Sanders in the running for new Van Helsing

The filmmaker who drove a wedge between Twilight lovers Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson is on executives' wish list to direct Tom Cruise in a new vampire-hunting action blockbuster.

Stewart and Pattison briefly split this summer after she was photographed kissing her Snow White & The Huntsman director Rupert Sanders in a Los Angeles park.

The actress apologised for her indiscretion and both she and her boyfriend went into hiding, while Sanders returned to New York to save his marriage to model wife Liberty Ross.

Now that both couples appear to be back together, Sanders is moving on with his career and he appears to have landed the remake of the 2004 Hugh Jackman movie, Van Helsing.

Sources tell Twitch.com that Universal bosses are in negotiations with Sanders about taking charge of the project.
