Russell Crowe boards Noah's Ark

Russell Crowe has signed on to star in biblical blockbuster Noah.

The Gladiator star will team up with Black Swan filmmaker Darren Aronofsky for the new movie adaptation of the famous Bible story, which revolves around a man on a divine mission to save creation from an upcoming flood.

A statement from Aronofsky reads, "I'd like to thank Paramount and Regency for backing my team's work to breathe new life into the biblical epic.

"I rejoice that Russell Crowe will be by my side on this adventure. It's his immense talent that helps me to sleep at night. I look forward to being wowed by him every day."

Noah will be released in 2014.
