Savile 'Molested' Teen During Top Of The Pops

A Top of the Pops audience member has told Sky News she was molested on camera by Jimmy Savile and then laughed at by a member of the crew when she tried to complain.

Sylvia Edwards, who was 18 at the time, says she was told to get lost by a man on the studio floor who said: "That's just Jimmy Savile."

Footage from the programme in 1976 shows the teenager clearly shrieking and jumping up from her seat as she struggles to get away from Savile, who says to a camera: "A fella could get used to all this."

Mrs Edwards told Sky News: "All of a sudden I felt this hand go underneath and I jumped up, I went to go back down again, but I couldn't go anywhere, his hand was still there.

"I was trying to push it away, but he wouldn't move it - I just screeched - I started feeling embarrassed because where could you go?

"I was just getting really flustered and he didn't move, and I just remember trying to get out, but there were too many girls around me."

As soon as it was over she said she tried to tell the nearest member of staff what had happened.

She said: "I just found this man that had some sort of headset on, I don't know what he was doing, next to a camera, and I said: 'He's really filthy, he's putting his hand up my skirt and that', and he said: 'Oh no, don't be so stupid'.

"He said, 'That's just Jimmy Savile, go on get out of the way, out of the way, you're blocking a camera shot' or something.

"I had to move because this camera was coming around and I thought fine, ok, what do you say - once they've told you to get lost, I didn't think that maybe I could go to the police, I just felt embarrassed."

She said she was picked out of the crowd to sit next to Savile and quickly found herself hemmed in by other girls.

"All I could think of was to get his hand away, and my hand was pushing it, but he just seemed to go rigid and keep his hand there, and actually if you watch the tape you can see him moving where I'm trying to push it away and he was having none of it, his hand was going to stay there, and that was it.

"I was trapped, I felt as if I was just stuck and everyone was closing in around me because obviously they all wanted to get in the camera shot and I could feel them all around me. We had to just wait until they said we could move."

Mrs Edwards' case raises more questions for the BBC. She is convinced that some within the corporation must have known what was going on.

"I know that they knew about it because I told them years and years ago and they just brushed it under the carpet.

"That is what annoyed me and prompted me to come forward to say they did know. I don't know how anybody could say they didn't know it was going on."

A spokesperson for the BBC said: "The BBC cannot comment on individual cases. It has asked that anyone with allegations of this nature should report them to the BBC's Investigation Unit or the police directly."

what do you think?

Back in the seventies us kids used to skive of school and would wait outside the bbc studios to see if we could get in.ever so often the bbc would be short of a participating audience and would send peaple out onto the street to invite peaple in.top of the pops was one such show.often it was the djs themselves that would let us in.

More evidence that allegations were ignored. All caught on camera too? Let's see people on here call her a liar now. Anyone who heard the interview saville had with his biographer about Garry Glitter and how he defended his actions, will know full well that it's all true

Knowing what I know now , when I watch the old clips on tv it was obvious , when we were kids we never noticed !!! I watched a clip the other day where he asked Gary glitter to sit in between to young girls and he done the same and they both made comments but watching it now , it is obvious that these were inappropriate comments and they were using the girls as objects !!!!

I always thought he was a horrible creepy man and it's amazing looking at these clips years later. Just shows how devalued young women were and still are. Things are improving, albeit slowly. Some of the dreadful remarks people make about "groupies" and young girls "asking for it" and "coming back for more" attest to that.

LBC have been running a story about the millions of pounds that British hospitals are receiving from the government for meeting targets to empty beds of old and sick people by using the Liverpool Care Pathway ( removing medication and food and drink ) without their or their families consent, remember that this is likely to happen to you or your family members in the future, the National Socialists in 30s Germany did something similar with their "useless mouths" euthanasia programme. I know, lets get angry at a dead DJ instead.

In my opinion, abuse on this scale with this many high powered priviliged people implicated is the real news. Unfortunately I think many (if not all) of the more higher powered priviliged individuals will continue to suppress the truth about their involvement in this hideous story..

I opened my local newspaper this morning, page 5, a couple of paragraphs about a man being charged with raping a 12 year old boy, he has been granted bail until his next court appearance, this is how serious the authorities regard child abuse. You won't find the media giving this case blanket coverage I bet. That is why I find the media overkill on a dead DJ smells a bit like bad news burying, whip up the popular hate against someone who can't be punished.

John, both stories involve cruelty and abuse of the most vulnerable people in our society, They are both deserving of media attention. It is frustrating when stories that we feel passionate about do not get the attention they deserve. But it's not just about Savile-it's about raising awareness of abuse and helping al the thousands of children who are victims and all the adults who were abused as kids. Read the posts on her - there is so much ignorance and denial

Gosh - people can show such a lack of compassion. Hopefully, all allegations will be dealt with properly and at least closure can be sought. They have just arrested Freddy Starr... This is going to be a huge exposure once the job is done and hopefully not all the perpetrators will be able to escape prosecution through death.
