Shia LaBeouf In Treatment For Alcoholism
Actor Shia LaBeouf is being treated for alcohol addiction just days after he was accused of disturbing a performance of Cabaret in New York.
The Transformers actor's publicist said he has not checked into a rehab facility but has voluntarily sought outpatient care for alcoholism.
Melissa Kates said in a statement that the 28-year-old's recent actions are symptoms of a "larger health problem".
She said he has taken the first of many necessary steps towards recovery.
The actor was charged last week with disorderly conduct and harassment after police said he used obscene language and became belligerent when asked to leave the Studio 54 theatre.
A dishevelled-looking LaBeouf did not enter a plea to the charges, which are all misdemeanours or violations so the former Disney child star would face minimal or no jail time if convicted.
LaBeouf's promising career has been upended recently by bizarre behaviour that has included attending a red carpet premiere at February's Berlin International Film Festival wearing a brown paper bag saying "I Am Not Famous Anymore".
The actor was arrested for drink driving in 2008 after he crashed his pickup truck, injuring his hand and knee.
