Shield Star Texted Wife's Dad 'After Killing Her'
Actor Michael Jace called his wife's father to tell him he had shot her, according to a newly released recording of a 911 call.
In the message, the 51-year-old - who starred as a police officer in cop show The Shield - is said to have asked his father-in-law to come and pick up the couple's sons.
The two young children were in the family's Los Angeles home at the time their mother was killed on May 19.
Authorities have made public the three-minute 911 call by 40-year-old April Jace's dad.
But they have not released a call that investigators say Jace made to report having shot his wife.
"My son-in-law called me, and (texted) me, and said come get the kids because he shot April, our daughter," the caller, whose name was removed from the audio, told an emergency dispatcher.
The victim's father phoned police as he drove to the couple's home.
Jace has been charged with murder, but has not yet entered a plea.
April Jace's family released a statement last week calling her death "a senseless act of domestic violence".
Detectives said last month they were investigating whether Jace and his wife, a financial aid counsellor, had quarrelled over money problems.
The actor had several film roles, but is perhaps best known for playing Officer Julien Lowe in The Shield.
The television drama about a corrupt LAPD unit ran for seven seasons between 2002-08.
