Skyfall Wins At South Bank Sky Arts Awards

The latest Bond film Skyfall has added to its list of accolades by winning the South Bank Award for Best Film.

Daniel Craig's latest outing as 007 is not only the most successful Bond ever, but also the most successful British Film since box office records began.

The award was presented by actor Mark Strong at The South Bank Awards at the Dorchester on Tuesday and the film beat psychological thriller Berberian Sound Studio and documentary The Imposter to the award.

The awards are a celebration of British culture and achievement across the arts and is one of the most diverse ceremonies, with categories including visual art, theatre, opera, dance, comedy, classical and pop.

In the Visual Arts Category the Olympic Cauldron - the centrepiece of the London Olympics opening ceremony - received its first major award.

And the Olympics also featured elsewhere in the awards with Twenty Twelves, BBC2's spoof series about preparations for the games, winning Best Comedy.

Julie Walters was awarded the Outstanding Achievement Award for her career of nearly forty years and Tom Hiddleston won the Times Breakthrough trophy.

Kristin Scott Thomas, Jo Brand, Victoria Wood, Grayson Perry and Richard E Grant were presenters and tenor Alfie Boe performed along with Jessie Ware, who won the pop prize.
