Snoop Dogg leaves naughty lyrics behind
Rapper Snoop Dogg is abandoning his X-rated lyrics and embracing a more wholesome image for his reincarnation as reggae artist Snoop Lion.
The Drop It Like It's Hot hitmaker is famed for rapping about drugs, guns and women but, after 'finding himself' in Jamaica, he now wants his lyrical message to make a difference to fans' lives.
Snoop Dogg, real name Calvin Broadus Jr., is adamant his transformation into reggae is a better emotional fit and he finds inspiration in the music which is "about love and peace and unity and struggle".
He tells ET Online, "I'm kind of watching what I'm saying... before I never had to watch what I was saying, because I didn't give a f**k what I was saying because it was coming from my heart...
"I was speaking from a young adolescent who was an ex-gangbanger (member of a street gang), ex-drug dealer, so I was speaking what I thought was best at the time, which was what I was going through.
"But as an older man I have to speak on things that make a difference and things that matter - using my power the right way to say something."
