Sonic The Hedgehog To Make Movie Debut

The world's fastest hedgehog, Sonic, is going to star in his own feature film.

Sony is reportedly working with a Japan-based production company to make an animated/live-action movie based on the blue, prickly animal's antics.

The Hollywood Reporter says the film will also star players' favourite characters, including villain Dr Eggman.

The Sega franchise has become one of the world's most popular with more than 140 million games sold.

It has earned over $1bn for the company since it was launched more than 20 years ago.

"There are limitless stories to tell with a character like Sonic the Hedgehog and a built-in international fan base," Columbia Pictures president of production Hannah Minghella said.

"Along with our wonderful creative partners at Marza, we're looking to capture everything that generations of fans know and love about Sonic while also growing his audience wider than ever before."

It is not yet known when the film will be released.
