Sophia Loren lands top prize at film festival

Acting legend Sophia Loren was honoured for her lengthy career at the Taormina Film Festival in her native Italy on Thursday.

The 77 year old was the guest of honour at the event in Sicily and picked up the lifetime achievement prize from organisers.

Loren told reporters at the festival that her mind was elsewhere - because Italy were playing Germany for a place in the Euro 2012 final.

She explained, "I am very honoured to win this wonderful award. But this soccer game is really taking my breath away."

The evening ended on a happy note for Loren - Italy beat Germany 2-1.
