South Africa: Cops Suspended After Man Tied To Van

Several police officers in South Africa have been suspended after a man was handcuffed to a moving police van and died later in a cell.

Police in Pretoria held a press conference to placate a nation outraged by a video showing taxi driver Mido Macia being dragged through the streets.

He was later found dead in a police cell.

National Commissioner of the South African Police Service, General Riah Phiyega, said that several officers had been suspended and disarmed.

An independent investigation has also been launched, she said.
