Stepdad Charged Over Toddler's Rape And Murder
A man has been charged with the rape and murder of his two-year-old stepdaughter in Australia.
The 23-year-old man is alleged to have attacked the toddler during a 20-minute period while her mother was out of the house in Coffs Harbour, a coastal city about 330 miles north of Sydney.
The girl was taken to hospital on April 20 but died the following day from her injuries.
The suspect, who reportedly helped the mother take the girl to hospital, was arrested on Thursday over the attack.
At first doctors thought the girl may have had a mystery illness, but an autopsy revealed otherwise.
Detective Inspector Darren Jamieson said: "We will allege in court that he sexually assaulted the child and delivered a number of serious blows to her abdomen which caused an injury which later led to her death.
"She deteriorated very, very quickly and as a result she died in the early hours of Monday the 21st of April.
"There are (also) drug charges - he's been charged with possession of drugs. We'll allege that they are methylamphetamine."
