Man Utd Boss: Suarez' Evra Snub 'A Disgrace'

Sir Alex Ferguson has branded Liverpool's Luis Suarez "a disgrace" for snubbing the offer of a handshake from Manchester United's Patrice Evra as the pair came face-to-face for the first time since becoming embroiled in a race row.

But rival manager Kenny Dalglish said after the match it was "bang out of order" to blame his striker for "anything that happened here today".

Suarez received an eight-match ban for racially abusing the Frenchman at a match in Anfield in October.

Ahead of the game at Old Trafford, defender Evra offered his hand as the two teams shared pre-match handshakes, but he was ignored by the striker.

The snub appeared to anger Evra, who grabbed the Liverpool player's arm and was quickly brushed off.

Uruguayan Suarez was then blanked by United's Rio Ferdinand, who refused to shake his hand.

The match ended in a 2-1 defeat for Liverpool, with Evra having the last laugh as he celebrated on the pitch in front of Suarez.

Manchester United manager Sir Alex said in a post-match interview that the snub "could have caused a riot".

"Patrice... we had a chat this morning," he said. "He says 'I'm going to shake his hand. I've nothing to be ashamed of and I want to keep my dignity.'

"And he (Suarez) refuses. He's a disgrace to Liverpool Football Club."

Kenny Dalglish said he "never knew" that Suarez had refused to shake hands.

"I wasn't there so I never saw it," said Dalglish. "That's contrary to what I was told."

Pressed for his reaction to the snub, the Liverpool manager said: "Ask him (Suarez) and we'll take it from there."

There were reports of a confrontation between Suarez and Evra in the tunnel during half-time, with stewards intervening.

Earlier, Sir Alex defended his skipper in the programme notes for the match.

"As always, we can expect a feisty match this afternoon, and this time it will have the hangover of the issue between Luis Suarez and Patrice Evra," Sir Alex told United Review.

"My own feeling is that it is time to move on.

"Right from the start we have tried to avoid aggravating the situation. As far as we are concerned, it is over."

It emerged during the match that just before kick-off, police seized fanzines containing a "potentially offensive" image, which were being sold outside the ground.

One man was arrested after T-shirts deemed offensive were also found on sale. The garments were seized by officers.

Evra should be charged for bringing the game into dispute at the end of the match. Was he trying to cause a riot?

A deliberate attempt by Evra to incite the few Liverpool fans at the end of the match? The reaction was way OTT & uncalled for, a real attempt to cause trouble for Suarez. Pathetic really, typical small man syndrome.

Because is the big hypocrite of them all. It's mind games and if you can't handle that in a game then you should not be playing it.

However distasteful you may find racism other countries and cultures have different views. If I, a white English man, said some of the things an Indian friend says about Pakistanies I'd be thrown in jail. To each their own.

Evra made a big meal out of not being shook hands,so all the world to see ,he should have just ignored suarez ...so what he didn't get an handshake ,I don't shake hands with people I don't like ,what about Ferdinands refusal to shake hands ,did suarez make a fuss ...no.And Neville bleating on sky saying suarez was wrong but defending Evra for is celebration .Utd really do think they are above everyone !

There's no place for people like Suarez in any walk of life, never mind football. If I did what he did I would've have been inastantly sacked, not defended by my boss.

What exactly did he do? Before you embarrass yourself by trying to answer I'll do it for you, you don't know. As I don't and more importantly the fa commission doesn't know either. They decided to believe evra over suarez with no facts to back this up. This Is why Liverpool fans and club back him to the hilt and why he refused to shake hands. Had I felt id been falsely accused and convicted I would have done the same thing.

What everybody seems to forget is that Suarez was found GUILTY of making racist remarks. Liverpool has done nothing but bleet on about it when in fairness to United they have kept quiet. If anybody has caused the problem, apart from Suarez with his small mindedness it is Dalgeish. Suarez was out of order and a disgrace to football - his behaviour was an embarrassment for Liverpool Football Club, its fans and Manager. Anybody who loves football will agree - and yes maybe Evra did go a bit over the top in his end of game reaction. Regarding Ferdinand he obviously has loyalty to his team-mate and good for him . Its about time that the matter was put to bed and the talk was about the game a WIN FOR MANCHESTER UNITED = brilliant.

Yes he was found guilty but with no evidence. Had this case like terry's gone to a criminal court it would have been kicked out in 5 minutes. As for not shaking evra's hand good on him, I wouldn't have either

Found guilty but with no evidence??? Ok mate whatever. He never appealed because he was found guilty and admitted using racist language. If there was a sniff of getting off with this then he would have appealed, simple as that.

Because Suarez was the guilty party he should have had the good grace to accept the hand that was offered. I agree with Garth Crooks that this hand shake before a game should be done away with and left to the individuals at the end of the match.. This is getting to the boring stage and time to move on .

Guilty or not, Suarez doesn't have to shake hands with someone he will no doubt dislike. Evra should come down off his pedestal of self-importance. Ferdinand...? Less said the better.

Suarez shouldnt be playing in England if he doesnt like it and obviously you havent a problem with people being racially abused - he was guilty he admitted it. If you are in a job and you have to shake somebodies hand would you refuse =- I dont think so if u behaved like that u would loose your job.

The whole race row is getting blown way out of proportion. I fully support kicking racism out but: 1. Suarez has served his ban 2. He should have shook hands, looked Evra in the eye and played the football he is capable of. 3. Evra should have not taunted rival fans, larking about like it was his own personal victory today. Evra is one of the biggest mardy ar**s in the business. If Suarez didnt shake his hand, so what. Let your football do the talking. Also Evra should have received a yellow for his opening tackle. Allegations, proven or not, are tearing English football apart. Look at the state of the national team now. We are a shambles.
