Suarez Says 'Sorry' For Evra Handshake Snub

Liverpool striker Luis Suarez has apologised for not shaking Patrice Evra's hand before his team's match against Manchester United on Saturday.
In a statement on Liverpool FC's website, he said: "I have spoken with the manager (Kenny Dalgliesh) since the game at Old Trafford and I realise I got things wrong.
"I've not only let him down, but also the Club and what it stands for and I'm sorry. I made a mistake and I regret what happened.
"I should have shaken Patrice Evra's hand before the game and I want to apologise for my actions.
"I would like to put this whole issue behind me and concentrate on playing football."
Ahead of Saturday's game at Old Trafford, defender Evra offered his hand to Suarez as the two teams shared pre-match handshakes, but was ignored by the striker.
Apparently angered by the snub, Evra grabbed the Liverpool player's arm but was quickly brushed off.
Uruguayan Suarez was then blanked by United's Rio Ferdinand, who in turn refused to shake his hand.
The club's managing director Ian Ayre has also released a statement criticising Suarez's actions.
He told liverpoolfc.tv: "We are extremely disappointed Luis Suarez did not shake hands with Patrice Evra before yesterday's game.
"The player had told us beforehand that he would, but then chose not to do so.
"He was wrong to mislead us and wrong not to offer his hand to Patrice Evra.
"He has not only let himself down, but also Kenny Dalglish, his teammates and the club."
After Saturday's game, Sir Alex Ferguson branded Suarez a "a disgrace" and said the snub "could have caused a riot".
But Kenny Dalglish said it was "bang out of order" to blame his striker for "anything that happened here today".
However, the Liverpool has now backed Suarez's apology, saying: "Ian Ayre has made the club's position absolutely clear and it is right that Luis Suarez has now apologised for what happened at Old Trafford.
"To be honest, I was shocked to hear that the player had not shaken hands having been told earlier in the week that he would do.
"But as Ian said earlier, all of us have a responsibility to represent this Club in a fit and proper manner and that applies equally to me as Liverpool manager.
"When I went on TV after yesterday's game I hadn't seen what had happened, but I did not conduct myself in a way befitting of a Liverpool manager during that interview and I'd like to apologise for that."

what do you think?

Is evra now going to apologise fir his actions...prob not....thats utd for you.

John Cunningham
Surely, in the Liverpool v Man U games, the 'handshake' is merely a symbol of what the players would like to do to each others' necks, lol!!!!

John Adamson
Alex Ferguson is bang out of order saying what he did about Luis. If Kenny had said same about Evra and Ferdinand, Ferguson would have been up in arms. The FA should stand up to Ferguson and tell him to keep his comments to himself. As for Evra jumping about like a loony after the final whistle, you'd think it was the World Cup final. Just hope Man. U. don't win league, as for Rooney, Euro championship Captain. Can't think of anyone else for job.

Jennie Morris
You are joking i hope we have had enough thugs as captain need someone with presence & preferably a few brain cells!

Keith Evans
Poor poor Luis, being picked on by someone like Alex, who knows nothing about football!!!!! Look, this guy Luis is badly in need of a brain transplant, along with anyone who thinks he is innocent of racial abuse. Please wake up and stop your crying about injustice.

Gavin Nellis
Lets be honest all this is through the frustration Liverpool have from years of being a nothing team behind utd every season.

Peter Howard
So you think Suarez made racist remarks to Evra because Man U have been a better side than Liverpool for a while? Congratulations on having such a perceptive mind. Your thoughts would be interesting on how Ferguson can so heavily condone Liverpool when he stuck by Cantona after his disgraceful action, Ferdinand after his ' missed ' drugs test and Keanes career ending butchery of a fellow pro?

Gavin Nellis
it was a joke, get a sence of humour you plonker

debbie
The apology only comes because Kenny has told him to do it. If he really wanted to put all this behind him he would of shaken hands. It's all too easy to say afterwards that he had made a wrong decision!!!

Louise Smith
Lets be honest.... its not sport nor sportsmanship

Keith Evans
As a footballer Suarez is very good, many Utd fans will agree. Now, at long last someone has had a word with him and he has now apologised. Well done, let that be the end of it.

Why appologise if you're right, anyone playing the cheap race card deserves the finger

Lee Bennett
Talk is cheap, He didn't want to apologise he was told by the boss to do it .Now he has made it even worse for himself. This won't be the end of it.

IRONSTINE
Mr Suarez immature, spoilt, a very poor show for all sportsmen.from a impartial view point.

Neil Servis
ban football altogether, what with racism, religion hate and fat fans fighting, do away with the thing, demolish parks and put houses there

eddie
I don't support either club so do not have an axe to grind but Suarez and Kenny Dalglish both needed to apologise after Suarez show of petulance and Kennys stupid response which can only inflame the situation.

Robert Jackson
why are we wasting our time talking about racism? We should be concentrating on what is best for the english. Rio Ferdinand is not english.

Mike Drouin
no good saying sorry should have acted more of a gentleman in the first place .

You are right Gavin i like United but i will admit Suarez is a top player. However as Gavin says kids look up to these players and if you look at the incident only 2 seconds before it Suarez was shaking the hands of the masot kids. What sort of example is that for grown men to set for a child, sorry Suarez to blame.

Yes Gavin, think Rick Dale does mean by individuality you have the right to be a racist and he has the cheek to call anyone who objects to that a facists. (spelt wrong on purpose) Shame on him.
