Taken sequel re-cut for lower film rating
Movie bosses have re-edited violent scenes in Liam Neeson's upcoming movie Taken 2 to land a less-restrictive age rating.
Film regulators were poised to slap a 15 classification on the follow-up to the 2008 kidnap thriller, which also stars Maggie Grace, meaning viewers under the age of 15 would not have been able to see the movie.
However, distributors were keen for the film to have a 12A rating to open it up to a younger audience and as a result, they've cut out some hard-hitting footage.
A statement from the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) reads, "The company was advised that the film was likely to receive a 15 rating but that their preferred 12A rating could be achieved by making changes to three scenes. These were to reduce elements of violence and threat.
"When an edited version of the film was submitted for formal classification, the scenes had been reduced and the film was consequently rated 12A."
The movie is set for release on 4 October.
