Texas Mansion Dangling On Cliff Set Alight
A luxury home teetering atop a cliff in Texas has been burned down to keep it from toppling into the lake below.
Fire crews set the $700,000 (£417,000) home ablaze on Friday.
The home, perched about 75ft (23 metres) above Lake Whitney, was dangerously close to toppling after portions of the adjacent cliff began collapsing in February.
By Thursday, about 50 metres of land that once separated the back of the home from the cliff edge was completely gone.
Aerial footage showed crews working to set up the controlled blaze. Smoke was soon seen pouring from the home before flames ripped through the roof.
In minutes, fire engulfed the 4,000 sq ft residence, and flaming debris plummeted to the lake, which sits about 60 miles south of Fort Worth.
The homeowners, who evacuated the property two weeks ago, agreed to the demolition.
