The Monkees have no plans to replace Davy Jones on tour

The stars on The Monkees will not be replacing late singer Davy Jones when they tour together in November - but they'll be doing their best to honour his songs.

Guitarist Michael Nesmith, who will join bandmates Peter Tork and Micky Dolenz on the road for the first time since 1997, insists the Daydream Believer singer, who died in February, will be very much part of the shows - but the trio won't be drafting in a new frontman.

Nesmith tells RollingStone.com, "David's presence and his past will be throughout the show. He will be missed in his absence, but very much on our minds and in our heart. We will include some of the songs he sang, and do our best."

But there will be a new member of the band onstage - Nesmith's guitarist son Christian will be part of the new Monkees line-up.

Fans of the band may have been hoping that Jones' longtime pal David Cassidy would take over as frontman for the tour after performing Monkees songs on tour as a tribute to his friend, but the singer's publicist tells WENN, "They've not come to us."

Tork, Nesmith and Dolenz announced plans for the November tour on Wednesday morning.
