The Sweeney knocks Dredd off box office top spot

Gritty cop film The Sweeney has knocked Dredd off the box office top spot after just one week, taking £1.5 million in ticket sales.

The movie, which stars Ray Winstone and rapper/actor Plan B in a big screen version of the popular 1970s TV drama, beat Universal's latest animation ParaNorman into second place, with £1.4 million.

Keira Knightley's new drama Anna Karenina is in third with £813,395, and gangster film Lawless follows close behind with £790,378.

Propping up the top five is Dredd, which fell four places, with takings of £769,381.
