Trio Locked Up For Life For Thusha Shooting

Three men have been jailed for life for a gang-related shooting that left a five-year-old girl paralysed.

Nathaniel Grant, Anthony McCalla and Kazeem Kolawole were hunting down a rivalgang member when they shot Thusha Kamaleswaran at her aunt's south London shopin March last year.

They were found guilty last month of causing grievous bodily harm with intent to Thusha and shopper Roshan Selvakumar, who was shot in the face, as well as attempted murder of their intended victim Roshaun Bryan.

Grant will serve a minimum of 17 years, and Kolawole and McCalla at least 14 years.

Kolawole, 19, of Kennington, southeast London; McCalla, 20, of Streatham, south London; and Grant, 21, of Camberwell, southeast London, were told theircrimes were "of the utmost gravity".

Judge Martin Stephens QC said: "Much of what you did was captured on CCTV andhas been shown on television screens across the land.

"One can only imagine the effect on the public when they saw what you had done."

The trio had gone out with a "determined, premeditated intention to kill" that day, he said.

Judge Stephens continued: "Mr Selvakumar was hit in the head but miraculouslysurvived with a piece of bullet remaining in his head.

"Five-year-old Thusha, who was dancing around with her family in the shop, was hit in the body.

"Only the skill and devotion of the medical teams who became involved saved her life but she remains paralysed below her chest and this condition is permanent.

"This simple but devastating statement of the essential facts of the case illustrate the gravity of these offences, riddled as they are with aggravating factors."

An innocent young girl has had her life ruined by these wicked men but I expect they will recieve lenient sentances and be out and able to carry on their lives within a very short period. We now do not know how long a sentance is! A judge says one thing and parole boards decide to let them out earlier. In some previous cases - such a policy has proved disasterous.

The sentences are large yes, but they are nothing compared to the destroyed life of this innocent little girl. These useless and pathetic stupid boys will continue to disturb people's lives once they come out of prison. I have never known of a life in prison that allows one to come out. What kind of life in prison is that? It is a pity that the same kind of people are involved in this kind of behaviour in the whole of England what a shame

To the parence you should be ashamed of bringing up such useless children. As the PM said we need to bring back the christian values in our children maybe some form of respect and value for life can be achieved.

Virginia. The sentences are not too long and please dont involve any sort of religious stupidity in this discussion . Its nothing to do with christian or any other religion this is purely about decent human beings being damaged by enen more of lifes failures.Yes they need to learn decency and respect and honesty but no religion can do that if that were the case how could the irish lunacy exist with their determined religions ? and how can the mad people of muslim say that their religion preaches peace and then go out and blow innocents up in the name of it. FORGET RELIGION its all LIES .DECENT family values are what are needed.

Yes Tracey it is up to parents to teach children good manners and respect for others and to also set a good example. Unfortunately low life also breeds low life. So nothing much is going to change in the near future.

should have been a min of twenty five years and no chance of parole for all involved a young girls life has been destroyed so the sentence should show the fact

I'd let them out of jail but make them pay to support the girl for the rest of their lives.
