Three Teens Arrested Over Knife Attack

A teenage girl and two boys have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a man was stabbed near Birmingham city centre.

Police called to Belgrave Middleway at 1am on Saturday found the man collapsed on the pavement with multiple stab wounds.

He is now in a critical condition in hospital.

A search of nearby canals and railway tracks was carried out, backed up by a police helicopter.

A girl and a boy, both aged 16, and a 15-year-old boy were arrested nearby.

They were taken to police stations across the West Midlands where they remain in custody.

A knife was recovered which is being examined by forensic experts.

CCTV footage of the area is also being reviewed by police.

The motive for the attack is currently not known.

An area near to a church on Bristol Street was cordoned off while a forensic examination takes place.

Bristol Street coming out of the city was also closed but was later re-opened.

Detective Inspector Ian Ingram said: "This was a nasty incident and are thoughts remain with the victim who is in a critical condition in hospital.

"We have spoken to a number of witnesses and we are encouraged by the progress we have made in relation to our investigation but continue to appeal for anyone with information to come forward.

"The motive for the attack remains unclear at this time but I can confirm that we are treating this as attempted murder."
