Toddler Dies After Dolphin Statue Falls On Him
A two-year-old boy visiting California with his Utah family has died after a 6ft dolphin statue fell on him.
Kayson Shelton wrapped his arms and legs around the heavy statue outside an art shop near San Francisco's Fisherman's Wharf when it toppled over, police say.
Initially the toddler was treated for a nose bleed, but he later died in hospital from internal injuries.
Police spokesman Gordon Shyy says the Majestic Collection Art Gallery had been previously warned about placing items outside on the busy pedestrian walkway.
The art shop was cited for having the dolphin statue outside, and police are investigating the boy's death.
An undated Google street view image shows a pair of dolphin statues positioned outside the art shop.
The gallery has not returned requests for comment.
Speaking to KPIX-TV, Kayson's uncle, Sam Delahunty, described his nephew as a "sweet, tender spirit".
He was "just a two-year-old, just a typical two-year-old where he's climbing around and having fun", Mr Delahunty said of the accident.
