Tom Hanks reprimanded by furious mum after TV swear

Tom Hanks' mother reprimanded the Oscar winner after he accidentally swore on live U.S. TV last week.

The star was promoting his latest movie Cloud Atlas on Good Morning America when he let slip the 'f' word during a chat with Elizabeth Vargas.

He immediately covered his mouth and then launched into a grovelling apology.

His mistake drew criticism from bosses at America's Parents Television Council (PTC) - and the star admits his own mum was also furious at his slip-up.

He tells E! News, "If it's possible to reach through the phone and slap your mouth, my mum did it, or would have done it to me over the phone."
