Families Tsar Blames Mums For Broken Britain
Mothers from problem families should feel "ashamed" of how they are damaging society and should stop getting pregnant, according to a senior government adviser.
Louise Casey, the Prime Minister's families tsar, has said it is time for the state to intervene.
She told the Daily Telegraph: "There are plenty of people who have large families and function incredibly well, and good luck to them, it must be lovely. The issue for me, out of the families that I have met, they are not functioning, lovely families.
"One of the families I interviewed had six social care teams attached to them: nine children, [and a] tenth on the way. Something has to give here really."
There are 120,000 so-called "problem families" in Britain, whose lives the Government hopes to turn around.
They cost the taxpayer an estimated £9bn in benefits, crime, anti-social behaviour and health care, and one fifth of them have more than five children.
Ms Casey warns that the state must start telling mothers with large families to take "responsibility" and stop getting pregnant, often with different, abusive men.
"The responsibility is as important as coming off drugs, coming off alcohol, getting a grip and getting the kids to school," she said.
"So for some of those women the job isn't to go and find yourself another violent, awful bloke who you will bring a child into the world with, to start the cycle all over again."
Ms Casey has been tasked with turning around the lives of the 120,000 most dysfunctional families by 2015.
In her initial report on the challenge the Government faces, compiled after interviewing a dozen families, she painted a grim picture of generational dysfunction.
what do you think?

Each of those children has a father, how about dealing with them too?

Greg Robinson
Why has it took so long to realise this obvious fact.more kids equals more benefits.cap family allowance at 3 children.simple answer.

At last, the taboo against critisizing problem families has been lifted. These people play on the "poor" poverty card, which they themselves have created. Multiple children - on benifits: no intention of ever working: completely antisocial. These people have to be prevented from terrorising the areas where they inhabit....strong action must be taken! The next taboo that it is not politically correct to discuss...homosexuality!

Am I to believe it is only a low figure of 120,000 families that are responsible for the state of Britain? The fact that some single mothers are irresponsible, breeding with many violent men is a widely taken one, uttered by most "nice" families for years, and would have been simple for the tsar to stuble across. Surely the problem goes deeper than that? Judging by the number of "prolem" families in my town , which I take as an average town, the figure must be far higher taking into acount all the towns and villages in Britain. I believe this statement of action is nothing more than a signal that a cutback in benefits/state help is coming their way, and will do little if anything to repair broken Britain

Easy answer here...........do as the chinese do.............put a government limit on the number of children allowed by law to each married and single parent families. Yes I know that you can not STOP them from getting pregnant, and I certainly would never advocate compulsory sterilisation, but if they were informed of the fact that after the "government limit", NO further children would be supported by the welfare state, they MIGHT think again about shelling out children like peas!!!

David
SIMPLES..................as the MeerKats say!!.............do as the chinese do, and have a legal liimit on the number of acceptable children within both married and single parent families. Exceed the limit, and NO further children over the legal quota will be supported by the welfare state.............no more hand outs ever increasing dependant ONLY on their ability to shell out chilren like peas!!!...................might JUST make them think twice before having "football team" sized families..................with only the state as a source of income!!!

Fully agree. It's about time people started taking responsibility for their own actions and subsequent offspring.

Very easy to just blame the mothers, they didn't get pregnant on their own. Then she has a go at them for having abusive partners! I'm sure they didn't willingly choose an abusive partner. Yes broken familiies can have problems but there are also some great ones that have happy kids. I thought this minister was a man at first, sorry blokes but can't believe a woman would come out and criticise mothers.

yep i know one personally 6 children three taken off her and brags over 700 partners.. what does that tell you of her morality....

The government should keep their noses out of UK citizens lives. . . This isnt China, if a woman wants to have five kids thats down to her and her own body. But its a bit late to try and fix soceity now, the faceless capitalism of thatcherite tory policies, started in 1979, are what caused the growth of the Underclass, and made people feel that they are completely disenfranchised from mainstream soceity - therefore they are not obliged to conform to communitycentric social patterns. When soceity has abandoned you, when the whole ethos of capitalism is all about me me me, Im all right jack - why should people be expected to conform when the money grabbing example set by those in power is all they have to aspire to ? I accept that the problems in soceity are complex and many - from a transient population, not knowing your neighbours, to the disintergration of old pillars of soceity, the inability of the christian church to adapt to modern attitudes. . . But ultimately we have created a disenfranchised, selfish population who puts fraternity above community - I dont like it but thats what weve got. . .if your going to have a soceity where the rules are 'the self is most important, existance without responsibility' well then dont be surprised if thats how people live ! ! ! And especially dont expect people to pay any attention to those in power moralising about how to live, when its been proved time and time again that those in power are the biggest immoral criminal hypocrites of all ! ! ! ! ! This is the UK, a nation of individuals - live as you please.

Responsibility lies with both parents, I get sick of hearing absent parents called fathers. The majority are but I know a few men myself included that are bringing up children with the mother being the absent parent. The men involved in these problem families are just as responsible as the mothers. They need to take responsibility for their offspring and not just financially, kids need to have parents spend time and energy showing them right from wrong. Too many children are brought in to the world by people who don't want to do this. A cut off point (number of children and a date when it applies from) needs to be set where after no new children will be supported by the state and both persons named on the birth certificate should be held responsible for the upbringing of the children. Also what happened to the rule that the mother in all but exceptional cases had to name the father on the childs birth certificate?

Yes this will stir trouble but this ladies stance is what I think the majority of Britain want to hear. Stronger tougher stance! No more p*ssy footing! Lets hope she does well and then this action moves into other problems in society today.......

It's Darwin's theory of worthless breeding with worthless = more worthless Thing is that the government let it happen and if they say no you cant or stop benefits you get Brussels on there back. Come on revolution... Hurry up. Mind you, those who would revolt haven't got the time to.too busy grafting to pay for the benefits given to the mass worthless families with no intention other than to sponge

Bernard Petrie
At one time many parents would have been socially ostracised for such behaviour on the basis of irresponsibility toward their children. Isn't the issue more one of general social morals and values than personal. One has to look at the garden they grow in as well as the person that has grown.

Michael Mcardle
another idiotic busybody attached to camerons no nothing government shouting her mouth of about things she has never had any experiance and so obviously knows nothing about. another upper class rich twit being placed in a job thats way beyond her.broken families occur for many reasons. its not all working class poor families who end up splitting up.how many wealthy people get divorced but you never here about these because it doesnt fit the governments agenda. blame everthing on people recieving welfare. the working class etc. does this awful woman actually believe that people choose to live in violent relationships. or enter into partnerships knowing it will end in tears. she based her facts on 12 families .a real in depth study then. the womans a fool like the rest of her tory friends
