Twilight movie takes a bite out of Bond

The final film in the Twilight vampire franchise has swooped to the top of the box office with opening weekend takings of £15.8 million.

Fans flocked to see The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2, starring Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart, and it knocked James Bond movie Skyfall into second place. The 007 blockbuster boasted earnings of £5.5 million.

Animated movie Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted fell a spot to number three after taking £966,116, while Indian romance film Jab Tak Hai Jaan debuted at number four with £893,953.

Ben Affleck's thriller Argo completes the top five - it earned £807,457 over the weekend.
