U2 record birthday track for Mandela

Irish rockers U2 have recorded a special tribute to mark Nelson Mandela's 93rd birthday on Monday.

The band performed a rendition of Happy Birthday at a show in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania last week and recorded it for Mandela.

The video will be played for the former South African president at a Mandela Day gala at the Four Seasons restaurant in New York on Monday, according to New York Post gossip column PageSix.

The event will be hosted by Hollywood actor Morgan Freeman, who played Mandela on the big screen in Invictus.
