Clarkson Sorry For 'Shoot Strikers' Remark

Jeremy Clarkson has apologised for his comments that people who took part in the national public sector strike "should be shot".
It comes after Unison said it was taking urgent legal advice over the Top Gear presenter's "appalling" remarks on BBC1's The One Show.
The union had called for him to be sacked by the corporation but has now told Sky News it accepts Clarkson's apology and has invited him to spend the day with a healthcare assistant on a hospital ward.
On the evening of the strike, Clarkson said on The One Show: "Frankly, I would have them all shot. I would take them outside and execute them in front of their families."
He added: "I mean, how dare they go on strike when they've got these gilt-edged pensions that are going to be guaranteed while the rest of us have to work for a living?"
The BBC has received more than 4,700 complaints about the comments and issued an apology.
The union, which represents more than one million public sector workers, was earlier considering whether the comments should be referred to the police.
General secretary Dave Prentis said before Clarkson's apology: "Clarkson's comments on The One Show were totally outrageous, and they cannot be tolerated.
"Public sector workers and their families are utterly shocked by Jeremy Clarkson's revolting comments. We know that many other licence fee payers share our concerns about his outrageous views.
"The One Show is broadcast at a time when children are watching. They could have been scared and upset by his aggressive statements.
"An apology is not enough. We are calling on the BBC to sack Jeremy Clarkson immediately. Such disgusting statements have no place on our TV screens."
A BBC spokesman said: "The One Show apologised at the end of the show to viewers who may have been offended by Jeremy Clarkson's comments."
Prime Minister David Cameron, a personal friend of the TV host, has dismissed the comments as "silly".
He said: "It was obviously a silly thing to say and I am sure he didn't mean that."
Labour leader Ed Miliband described them as "absolutely disgraceful and disgusting".
He said: "Jeremy Clarkson should apologise for those comments. He obviously does not understand the lives of the people who were going out on strike."
Clarkson has made no comment on the reaction and was filmed preparing to take a flight out of Heathrow airport as he is due to do some filming abroad.
what do you think?

There have been a couple of cases recently where other famous people have lost their jobs and not famous people have been prosecuted for saying less. I wonder how many civil servants used to watch Top Gear?

Geoff
Just watch what Clarkson said on YouTube - he was joking. Everyone needs to chill out a little.

Now this is getting very silly! The comments were the sort of throw-away kind that everyone makes without meaning it and if Clarkson is to blame for anything it is for being big-headed and lacking judgement, not for the first time as he turned me off watching Top Gear. For the trade union leader to take him seriously is ridiculour and I hope he gets charged for wasting police time. Shows the unions are not in the real world as those of us in the private sector have had our pensions cut, paying more for less, and as I am now self-employed, I have seen the value of my pension drop 20 per cent in five years.

I don't think for 1 minute that the strikers are doing it for fun. Pay cuts, pay cuts, pay cuts, Who are the nexrt in line? MPs?????? Mr Clarkson should carry on his way with Top Gear not Top Brownie points for talking about nothing that he knows about.

I am sooo sorry but could someone please point out where to find the humour in poverty or prospective poverty?

Well done Clarkson for saying what most people dare not think! However in the real world I would like to see Employers given the legal right to sack striking employees on the spot and for the employee to have NO RECOURSE to any industrial tribuneral. Also people who are sacked for taking part in strike action should not be allowed any form of State Benifits for six monthe from the date that are sacked.

Cannot help but be amazed at the anti public worker comments on here- and the bitterness over their pensions. Public sector workers have to pay for their pensions from their wages. They work and are paid. Just because they are paid from the public purse does not mean they are given money for nothing or that they do not earn the money they are paid. My sister retired from a career working for a bank- She has a non contributory pension- meaning she never paid a penny for it! No one is shouting about the billions a year given to benefit scroungers/ cheats, asylum seekers and the like who never paid a penny in. You would all balk at the government if you had purchased bonds "guaranteed to earn you 100% profit after 40 years and then be told after 30 years they will only be worth 75% profit because the 100% promised is an unsustainable return".

Get a grip this is Clarkson were talking about, they knew he would say something like this.

ian
Well I say we should elect him for PM. We as british citizens are sick and tired of the way we are being treated. You can't say anything about immigration because you will then be racist, You can't say anything about these pensions because Civil Servants believe they are entitled to get whatever they can out of the country, The NHS is suffering because now they can keep you alive longer. We should be allowed to voice our concerns. I think Jeremy just says out load what we are all thinking.

get a grip man what happened to freedom of speech he was only voicing his opinion
