Kile Glover died of head injuries six days after the crash on Lake Lanier, northeast of Atlanta, which also left another teenager seriously hurt.
The jet ski Jeffrey Hubbard was riding hit the children as they were being towed on an inner tube.
Hubbard was also found guilty of causing serious injury, reckless operation of a vessel, unlawful operation of a personal watercraft and a boat traffic violation.
His lawyers argued what happened was a tragic accident and was not linked to recklessness.
Kile was the son of the singer's ex-wife, Tameka Foster.
The couple married in 2007, but divorced acrimoniously two years later. They have two children together.
