Viaduct Crack Shuts M4 For Up To Five Days

The M4 motorway has been closed in both directions between junctions one and three in west London following the discovery of a crack in a viaduct.

Queues have been forming around the busy stretch of road which is the main link to Heathrow airport from the capital.

The works come just three weeks before the start of the London 2012 Olympics, with the section of the motorway expected to be shut for up to five days.

A signed diversion route is in place on adjacent dual carriageways, the A312 and the A4.

Drivers are being advised to keep up to date with traffic conditions and allow extra time for their journeys.

The closure is part of continuing work being carried out to the Boston Manor Viaduct, just west of junction two.

The Highways Agency said it decided to keep the Boston Manor Viaduct closed while a crack in a "sensitive location" is repaired.

The agency said it expected the work to be completed in time for the Olympic Games which get under way on July 27 until September 9.

Just turn Hammersmith into a large park & ride with a complete ban on all traffic into London, buses and taxi's only. That should stop all congestion and make London a better place environmental wise. MP's already have their own tube station at Westminster so they can forego their gas-guzzlers too!

WOW!!! Made my day this news!! Here, around Ashford, Kent the potholes have been magically filled in, and new bright while lane markings appeared on the roads, and J10 of the M20, all on the Olympic torch route, despite the fact that KCC/Highways have been ignoring other roads with potholes, that have grown bigger by the day, due to lack of cash!!!

Lack of cash or lack of interest? Cameron gave away more than 8billion to overseas (Probably to build roads) and in his time overseas money (I refuse to call it aid) has gone up by a third. Is this perhaps some crazy dodge to avoid income tax !

We have a road in my town that leads past the church. It has holes and bumps in it that would shake the wheels off a jumbo jet. It was originally laid by the Romans we believe, and probably has deteriorated since. The Romans would be dismayed at the County Council responsible for the road (A main road through the town I would add). Now London can get a bridge fixed in 5 days yet we cant get a road fixed in twenty years! What is really laughable is that road humps are laid on this road when you have already had the guts shaken out of you Ha ha ha ha. What would we do without our County Council?

Couldn't agree with you more. With the state of the roads it's like driving in a third world country.

I have travelled to some parts of the world where the road wouldn't be closed even if the bloody bridge was missing!
