Video Captures Dramatic Runway Near-Miss
Amateur video has captured the moment a pilot was forced to abort a landing to avoid hitting another plane crossing the runway in front of him.
The footage, filmed by an aviation enthusiast on Saturday, shows a passenger plane taxi across a runway at Barcelona's El Prat Airport on which a Russianájet is about to land.
The pilot immediately decided to abort the landing and pulled up the nose.
The UTair Boeing 767-300 plane then flew on, circling several times before landing on the same runway a few minutes later.
It was not clear whether the taxiing Aerolineas Argentinas aircraft was cleared to cross the runway.
Sky's Technology Correspondent Tom Cheshire said Spain's Airports and Air Navigation (AENA) - which manages Spain's airports - has said the incident was nothing to worry about and within the margin of error.
According to AENA the aborted landing, called a go-around, is a standard procedure and has built-in safety guarantees.
It has referred the incident to the Spanish Civil Aviation Air Accidents Investigation Branch for investigation.
