Economy And Family At Top Of Queen's Speech

The Queen's Speech has identified how the Government hopes to focus on economic reforms and family-friendly policies in the year ahead.

Addressing MPs and peers, Her Majesty said measures would be taken to improve the regulation of banks, while reforms to the Enterprise Bill will make life easier for businesses.

The Queen opened her 69th Speech by saying it would be ministers' "first priority... to reduce the deficit and restore economic stability".

She went on to talk about voter-friendly measures, such as improving the lives of children and families.

"My Government will propose measures to improve provision for disabled children with special educational needs.

"New arrangements will be proposed to support children involved in family law cases, reform court processes for children in care and strengthen the role of the Children's Commissioner.

"Measures will be proposed to make parental leave more flexible so both parents may share parenting responsibilities and balance work and family commitments."

After last week's drubbing by Labour in the local government elections, both Conservative and Lib Dem ministers are hoping the Speech will relaunch the coalition Government.

So the aim is to promote a series of voter-friendly measures, such as curbing electricity prices and protecting farmers and grocers from rip-offs by big supermarket chains.

As expected the Queen also said the Bill to reform the House of Lords would be brought forward - despite a Tory backbench revolt.

The Government will also push ahead with the introduction of controversial new surveillance methods that will give authorities access to communications data under strict safeguards.

"My Government will introduce legislation to strengthen oversight of the security and intelligence agencies," the Queen said.

"This will also allow courts, through the limited use of closed proceedings, to hear a greater range of evidence in national security cases.

"My Government intends to bring forward measures to maintain the ability of the law enforcement and intelligence agencies to access vital communications data under strict safeguards to protect the public, subject to scrutiny of draft clauses."

She finished on a lighter note, detailing her plans for the coming months.

"In the year of the Diamond Jubilee, Prince Philip and I will continue to take part in celebrations across the United Kingdom.

"The Prince of Wales and other members of my family are travelling widely to take part in festivities throughout the Commonwealth.

"Prince Philip and I look forward to the London Olympic and Paralympic Games and to welcoming visitors from around the world to London and venues throughout the country."

Some bitterly controversial proposals did not feature in the Queen's Speech, however.

Legislation on high speed rail, fiercely opposed by many Conservative MPs whose constituencies will be affected, will be introduced next year, as was always planned.

And a law on gay marriage, strongly backed by David Cameron and George Osborne but bitterly opposed by many Conservative MPs, will also come later, since it is still at the consultation stage.

In the Commons clash between the party leaders after the Queen's Speech, Ed Miliband said the the Government's legislative outlook was "out of touch, unfair and incompetent".

"This is the Speech that was suppose to be the Government's answer to the clear message from the electorate last week. But on today's evidence, they still don't get it," he said.

"For a young person looking for work, the Speech offers nothing. For a family whose living standards are being squeezed, this Speech offers nothing.

"For the millions of people who think the Government isn't on their side, this Speech offers nothing. No change, no hope. That is the real message of this Queen's Speech."

what do you think?

Her Maj will be telling us that Retail Banking is seperated from Investment banking. Horse, Gate, bolted.............. From 1963, to 1994 successive Tory and Labour Governments have allowed the Banks to create £655 Billion, out of thin air, as debt, whilst the Governmnet only created £25 billion in coinage and notes So 97% of the total money supply of the UK[M4] was created as counterfeit money. And the National Debt is actually just made up digitial money which should never have been allowed to exist in the first place. Of course the government could have stopped this utterly corrupt fractional reserve banking system, at any time they liked. The Governmnet could have created money debt free. They could and should have put far greater restrictions on banking. Instead they have impoverished generations, and allowed the UK to become a Dictatorship of the Monetary system. Parliament has never had the best interests of the population at heart. We DO NOT live in a democracy. Now they are trying to convince people, with sleight of hand, its just business as usual, and we should be attempting to pay back this debt. Why? Its not my debt. It didnt have to be this way. What should actually be happening, is the 'bought and paid for' corporate Media should try telling the truth, and the majority of the country should be seeking out our local MP's houses with pitchforks, nooses, and flaming brands. AND IM NOT KIDDING EITHER From 1997, in just 15 years the banks have used their power to create money to pump hundreds of billions of pounds into the housing market This has pushed the price of housing out of reach of ordinary people. Generations, are in debt slavery, working for nothing. Unable to pay for a stake in society. completely ignored From the time when the Bank of England was formed in 1694, it took just over 300 years for banks to create the first trillion pounds. It took them only 8 years to create the second trillion. LABOUR/LIB DEM/TORY......FAKE CHOICES FOR FOOLS.

monarchy is just a relic from the mediaeval age and the queen will read out anything those corrupt clowns put in front of her. They'll all be there - Tory, LibDems and Labour - walking into the chamber, side by side, like some big Eton private school foundation day. Meanwhile, there's absolutely nothing in this that will change anything, just business as usual. As captain of the sinking ship Cameron says: 'We're not changing course.' Full steam ahead towards the iceberg then! They're not taking any notice of the concerns for ordinary people, just paying lip service, which will one day be to their detriment - as in Greece and France. We will turn to the left and take power into our own hands, not a moment too soon.

The Conservative party must now reject Cameron and Osbourne and put in David Davis as Prime Minister and a proper Chancellor who will reduce taxes for the middle class and OAPs, cut VAT, Reduce prices on petrol, diesel, gas, water and electricity. plus cut taxes for shops and increase the State pension by at least 50%. Our state pension is the smallest in Europe and nearly in the rest of the world. If you are getting it then for about 50 years you have paid a fortune to the treasury in tax and NI. So your current pension is 50% lower than you paid but you may only live for 10-20 years so the treasury will have loads of money

Our social security benefits are skewed. If you are a pensioner who has paid taxes and NI throughout your life, you get less than an immigrant, possibly illegal, who has paid nothing. Some countries set a minimum period before benefits can be granted, but not here, which is why we are overrun. We pay GBP15 bn into the EU, as one of the largest net contributors, and then GBP 9bn in overseas aid, often to countries who don't need it or who use it for their own ends. That's the sort of reforms we need and that is what we wanted to hear.

Does anyone particularly care what the Queen has to say anymore? She has allowed successive Governments to rot this nation from the inside out to the point there is nothing good to build upon anymore. She could have had sufficient input to stop the ridiculous actions, but instead she is more concerned with doing day trips to appease the upper class royalists who want to shake her hand. It's no wonder Brits are emmigrating to other countries (and not coming back I add!)

Am I the only one who cringes every time the Queen reads a statement written for her by our government? Is this the sign of a modern monarchist? I woulld not mind if the queens speach was honest but it is written by a dishonest government who shouts out that family life is a priority and yet they have decimated and destroyed families and family life for thousands of British Subjects and their foriegn spouses.. They have trashhed human rights in this country and reduced people rights in this country except if you are not British. The Queen is obviously not in tough with her subjects or she would refuse to read a governments written speach because she would be in disagreement with it. Has the queen no shame at all or is it she really is just going through the process
